I loved all the florals and water color prints popping up on the Spring/Summer runway. So obviously the first thing that popped in my head was "I could do that" I love how this turned out, and its surprisingly easy. No artistic skill necessary.... as you can tell by mine.
LIQUID FABRIC PAINT/NATURAL HAIR PAINT BRUSH/ WATER/WHITE SHIRT/ STIPPLING BRUSH/PLASTIC CUPS **Optional: Mannequin
To make the "Watercolor" I mixed the liquid fabric paint with water. I don't have a solid recipe for this? You'll just have to eyeball it until you get the color you want.
I recommend practicing on a scrap piece of fabric.

Left to Right.
1. Cover mannequin with a trash bag and put white button up on. If you don't have a mannequin just place cardboard between the shirt and lay flat on a table.

2. Use chalk to make a rough outline of where you want your flower. (Sorry its hard to see)
3. Fill in the lines with a pale pink. Layer some areas to add depth. Not super important though. You'll be adding more later.
4. Shadow with a deep red. Around the edges and center of the petals.
5. Stipple black around the under collar. I first did a layer of watered down black and then went over it with straight black.
6. Stipple the collar yellow. Let it dry and stipple over with black.
Note that using too much water will cause bleeding, so be careful. Thats why my finished shirt looks a little different. Its best to do all the steps while the shirt is still wet. The colors blend better.

DeleteYou did an excellent job! Very creative idea and explained so well. Two questions..Did you set the colors with an iron? and did the fabric remain soft?
ReplyDeleteNew York or Paris are in your future. You definitely have talent.
Thank you so much! I did not set with an iron, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt though. The fabric did stay soft!
